Are you Flourishing?
If you are like most people you probably don’t know what a Coach (Life Coach, Health Coach, Weight Loss Coach, etc…) does exactly, right? Why would you need to hire and pay for that? How are they different than a friend to talk to, a program like weight watchers or another diet, joining an exercise challenge, going to church more often, listening to podcasts, or even going to therapy? And why should you care?
Let me ask you another question: Did you know that only approximately 17% of the population is flourishing? Nearly half are “just okay” (CFO Magazine)– not depressed, but not thriving. Just because you are not depressed doesn’t mean that you are happy and fulfilled!
Life and health coaches are change agents that empower, enrich and enhance what you already have inside, so that you can live your most amazing life, with a greater sense of happiness, well being, resilience and engagement. Coaches can view things from afar — in what some call ‘helicopter vision’ — and to shed new light on difficult situations. Often, they can act as a sounding board through tough decisions, help sharpen skills, and motivate.
Imagine this: Think of a big, dark warehouse, housing all your desires on big, tall shelves. Right now, if you are in the majority, you don’t even know that this warehouse exists, let alone know what is on those shelves. Working with a coach, you find the key to open the warehouse door and use a high-powered flashlight that bring the desires to light. Once found, we work together to find options that bring them down from the shelf, dust them off, release what has kept them in the dark and bring them into the light.
Maybe your desire is more confidence, more energy, feeling better in your body; maybe it is to stop sabotaging yourself so you can get that promotion, lose the weight, find your true love; maybe you want to free yourself from the drama inside your head, the drama of overeating, the drama of your relationships.
Your coach is there to guide you and help you make sustainable, lasting changes with awareness and education, so you have choices. We help you put that into action. It is one thing to know something, quite another to put it into action. Heck, if it was as easy as just “knowing”, we would all be living our dream life just by reading the supermarket magazines! Another question for you: Do you ask your best friend to fix the transmission on your car? Do you fix your own transmission? How about the plumbing in your house? First, know that you are not broke and you don’t need fixing! And, you shouldn’t expect your best friend to know how your mind and body function. Coaches are professionals who recognize and identify blocks, challenges and opportunities. We teach you how to manage your mind/body, so you “run” optimally.
Only celebrities, high-level sports athletes, and business-people can afford coaches, right? While you might see only those types of people as relying on their body/mind/energy to play their sport, to run a huge company, etc. as having more importance than you - you would be mistaken. Your mind/body/energy is your biggest asset, you might say that it is really your only asset. It was what you came into this world with and what will be the last thing as you leave. Taking care of and managing your “whole being” creates all your experiences in your life. We weren’t given a manual for how your amazingly complex mind works, how connected the mind and body are, why we run certain programs over and over; why some are super helpful, like the complexity of driving a car or walking, and some aren’t, like the program that tells you what a loser you are for not getting up when you wanted.
